NIPT Screening

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is currently the most advanced non-invasive pregnancy screening available for parents looking to understand if their baby has a high probability or low probability of being affected by chromosomal conditions such as Down’s syndrome, Edwards’ syndrome and Patau’s syndrome.

NIPT is a screening test that examines fragments of DNA (cell free-DNA) which are released from the placenta. These fragments are isolated from the mother’s blood to understand if there is a high or low probability of the baby being affected by specific chromosomal conditions.

The scan and blood draw will be completed by one of our qualified Sonographers. The appointment will begin with an ultrasound scan to confirm that the pregnancy is viable and dated over 10 weeks (9 weeks for Panorama). The scan is then followed by a simple blood draw.

Results are typically provided within 5-7 working days of receipt at the laboratory. We will always call you with the results prior to emailing you the report. Should the results show a high probability, you will be given the option of speaking to a genetic counsellor which is included within the cost of the test.

Please see above for the NIPT options available here at FirstSight. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions about these tests.
