Panorama Extended Panel NIPT

All NIPT options include an early pregnancy scan prior to the blood draw.

The Panorama Test is one of the most advanced screening tests available for parents who would like to determine if they have a low probability or high probability of their baby having conditions including Down’s syndrome, Edwards’ syndrome or Patau’s syndrome.

The Panorama test is available from 9 weeks into pregnancy.

The Panorama test is processed by Natera, a global leader in cell-free DNA testing, based in the United States.

Panorama Extended Panel

Alongside the conditions screened for in the Panorama test, the Panorama Extended Panel includes screening for the five microdeletions detailed below.

  • Microdeletion syndromes:
    • 22q11.2 deletion (DiGeorge) syndrome
    • 1p36 deletion syndrome
    • Angelman syndrome
    • Prader-Willi syndrome
    • Cri-du-chat syndrome

A small, missing piece of a chromosome is called a microdeletion. Unlike Down’s syndrome, which occurs more frequently in mothers who are 35 and older, microdeletions occur in pregnancies at the same rate for mothers of any age. Panorama Extended Panel screens for these five microdeletion syndromes which can be associated with serious health problems.

Summary of Panorama Extended Panel

Panorama Extended Panel screens for Trisomy 21,18,13, sex chromosome aneuploidy, Triploidy and 22q11.2 deletion (DiGeorge) syndrome, 1p36 deletion syndrome, Angelman syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, Cri-du-chat syndrome. Fetal sex optional.

Please ensure that you have read the below FAQs prior to booking.

Why choose Panorama?

Panorama has been the test of choice of more than 2 million women around the world, from over 80 countries. It has some exclusive features:

  • the only NIPT to differentiate between mother and baby’s DNA for the conditions screened
  • detection of Triploidy and vanishing twin
  • detection of Zygosity
  • detection of Maternal X mosaicism
  • in twin pregnancies, fetal fraction and sex for each twin
  • targets over 13,000 SNPs to evaluate the 1% of the DNA that makes us different from each other

Is Panorama right for me?

According to the International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD), non-invasive prenatal testing (like the Panorama Test) is appropriate as a primary screening test for pregnant women of all ages. Down’s Syndrome and certain other chromosomal conditions occur more frequently in babies born to mothers over 35 years old. Other conditions for which Panorama screens – such as microdeletion syndromes – occur with the same frequency in babies, regardless of the mother’s age.

Currently, Panorama cannot be used in the following types of pregnancies:

  • Multiple gestation pregnancies with 3 or more fetuses
  • Pregnant women who are bone marrow transplant recipients

When will I get my results?

Results take 5-7 working days from receipt at the laboratory. The Panorama test is sent to Natera in the USA. As such, it takes 2-3 working days to arrive at the laboratory. Results will typically therefore take 7-10 working days in total.

In about 1.6% (as opposed to 3% for other NIPT tests), a result is not possible (usually because there is not enough fetal DNA in the original blood sample). When this happens, a repeat blood test may be required and this is done at no extra cost. After a second sample only about 0.03% tests remain unreportable.

How will I receive my results?

We will call with your results and then email you a copy of your NIPT report.

Can I find out the sex of my baby with the test?

Panorama can report whether your baby is likely to be a boy or a girl. With Panorama you can get an early indication of what the gender may be, but as this is only a screening test, surprises are still possible.

This is optional. It is your choice whether this is included in the test report.

What does the detection rate mean?

The detection rate or sensitivity is the ability to correctly identify a baby with a specific condition. For example, in a group of babies with Trisomy 21, Panorama will correctly identify more than 99% of those cases.

What is specificity?

This is the ability to correctly identify a baby that does not have the condition.

What is the Positive Predictive Value (PPV)?

This is the likelihood that if the result says high probability that the fetus will actually have the condition. For example, when the Panorama Test shows a high probability of Trisomy 21, then there is a 95% chance that the fetus will actually have Trisomy 21.  For Trisomy 13, the PPV is 68%.

What is the Negative Predictive Value (NPV)?

This is the likelihood that if the result says low probability that the fetus will not have the condition.

How will my test results be presented?

Low probability: A low probability result indicates that it is very unlikely that your baby has one of the conditions on the Panorama panel.

High probability: A high probability result does not mean the baby has a chromosomal condition; rather, it indicates a very high probability that your baby may have that condition. Your healthcare provider may recommend that you speak with a genetic counsellor and/or fetal medicine specialist. You may be offered invasive diagnostic testing such as amniocentesis or CVS. No irreversible pregnancy decisions should ever be made based on a Panorama result alone.

No result: In a small percentage of cases, Panorama may not be able to obtain sufficient information from your blood sample to determine an accurate result. If this occurs, a second blood sample may be requested.

What happens if a high probability result is reported?

We will refer you to a genetic counsellor to talk through your results and what they mean. This is included in the cost of the test. We would also recommend that you provide your results to your healthcare provider. You may be offered invasive diagnostic testing such as amniocentesis or CVS. No irreversible pregnancy decisions should ever be made based on a Panorama result alone.

Please can you provide the performance data for the Panorama test?
